After 34+ years of encouraging the artistic development of young pianists, the Glendale Piano Competition is closing. To our longtime judges, supportive teachers and parents, and to the hundreds of students who have participated across the years, we thank you and wish you all the best.

Welcome! Please read carefully!

Here is some important information for the 2020 competition:

  • *NEW* All students will choose their audition time during registration. Registration begins on April 1st. Please see registration for more information.
  • *NEW* Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020, in and around Glendale, CA. Winners will be announced immediately following each grade level, and the Winners’ Concert will be held that evening at 7 pm. Winners who are not in attendance will forfeit their awards.
  • The competition is open to students in Grades 3-12. The competition consists of private auditions before a panel of judges who select winners to perform at a winners’ concert that same evening.
  • No changes to audition repertoire will be permitted after registration closes on May 1st.
  • Competitors in the Junior Division (grades 3-8) will present one piece and the auditions will not exceed 6 minutes.
  • Competitors in the Senior Division (grades 9-12) will present TWO pieces: one selection from either the Baroque or Classical period AND one selection from either the Romantic, Impressionist, or Contemporary period. These audition will last 10 minutes, although the combined length of the pieces may be longer than 10 minutes. Judges will stop the audition at their discretion within the time limit. This will not negatively affect scores.
